Feasibility Study.

The Feasibility Study was made possible following successful funding applications to the Torfaen Community Key Fund and the Welsh Assembly Government Environmental Improvement Grant.

In July 2007 ADAS were commissioned to undertake a study of the feasibility of restoring the American Gardens and of managing and maintaining the site in the long term. The study was carried out over a six month period and its purpose was:

1.    To compile a brief history of the American Gardens;

2.    To assess the condition of the site, identify problems to be tackled and opportunities that could be embraced in restoring it;

3.    To draw together a balanced picture of how everyone in the local community sees the American Gardens and would like to see them restored and used in the future;

4.    To develop a preliminary master plan showing practical restoration proposals, for discussion with all the project partners; and

5.    To outline long term management proposals for the site, to ensure that the restored gardens can be sustained, maintained and provide a genuine resource for the community.
